RV Maintenance Schedule: Monthly, Seasonal and Annual Checklist
Regular RV maintenance prevents expensive breakdowns and extends the life of your rig. This complete maintenance schedule covers everything from weekly checks to annual servicing.
An RV is simultaneously a vehicle and a home β maintenance requirements span both categories. A consistent maintenance schedule prevents the majority of common breakdowns and keeps costly repairs from accumulating.
Before Every Trip
Check tyre pressure including the spare β RV tyres are commonly over or under-inflated and both conditions cause dangerous blowouts. Check all exterior lights. Check propane connections for leaks using soapy water. Test smoke, CO, and propane detectors. Check engine oil, coolant, and windshield washer fluid. Verify hitch connection and safety chains if towing.
Monthly During Travel Season
Inspect the roof for cracks, lifted seams, or damage around vents and antennas β the roof is the most common source of water damage. Lubricate slide-out seals with slide-out conditioner. Check all interior plumbing connections. Test all appliances. Inspect battery bank water levels if using flooded lead-acid batteries.
Seasonal Before Storage
Winterise the water system completely before freezing temperatures. Clean and cover the roof AC unit. Remove all food. Disconnect and store house batteries on a trickle charger. Cover the rig if storing outdoors. Stabilise fuel in the generator.
Annual
Replace LP detector, smoke detector, and CO detector batteries. Inspect and reseal all exterior seams with self-levelling lap sealant. Service the generator per manufacturer schedule. Have the slide-out mechanism professionally inspected. Check and repack wheel bearings on trailers.
